Surroundings

Chinchillas are very curious creatures, but also are very skittish. It is best to make slow movements with them. Give them time to explore and learn about their new surroundings. They memorize things according to location, so that they can move even without seeing. If you move something, after it has been somewhere awhile, they will tend to bump into it, since they have not yet memorized it there yet.

Play Ideas

For play ideas, they love wheels in their cage, to jump, and also to chew. Since they are rodents, they need a lot to chew to keep their teeth from growing. Give them pieces of wood, salt, and other things for them to chew. If you have more than one, they will love to play together.

Climate

There is a lot to know for a first time owner of a chinchilla. First, chinchillas need to be in a stable temperature environment. They cannot have it too warm; because of their fur…they can easily die of heat stroke. Don’t keep the room too cold though either, maybe somewhere in the 65-68F.
